Some of the definitions of infertility need to be clarified, so one is: if you are less than 35 years of age, it is one year of unprotected intercourse without conceiving. If you are over 35 years of age – six months.

So traditionally what we look at for infertility is the eggs, the uterus and the tubes, if they function, and the sperm. And then we see if there are problems with them. One of the very common things that we see with infertility is problems with ovulation – ovulatory dysfunction. So if the egg never gets the chance to contact the sperm, then people cannot get pregnant. So there if is the problem with the tubes, if there is problem with the way that the brain and the ovaries communicate to get the eggs out; if the ovaries are failing to whatever reason, it cannot get the eggs out; if the eggs are in the poor quality or bad quality overall then people will not get pregnant.

So there is also something called primary versus secondary infertility. So primary infertility is someone who has never had a child before and who then cannot conceive. Secondary infertility is if someone has been able to conceive it another point in their life, even if they had a miscarriage. So that secondary is just something has happened that has changed the game and then they have secondary infertility.

What do you need to do to boost your fertility? You should look ar your lifestyle. Think about your fertility.  When you are young, and you are travelling, you need to be cognizant that there is a time limitation. And the younger you are when you try to conceive the better chances you will have to get pregnant. Women in their twenties to early thirties is the better age to conceive. Try to have babies you if you are in the place that you can.

There are a lot of medical options to improve fertility and sperm production, but there are also some natural methods.

Women who are too thin or too heavy can have fertility problems mostly with their ovulation. Exercise is good. Body mass index (BMI) between about 18.5 to 25 is ideal.

Anything that reduces stress is helpful. We know that the stress can also affect ovulation. So if acupuncture, yoga, meditation works for you, then it is a good thing.
